In this recently produced video recording, Alec Hogg interviews RW Johnson on the ANC’s Elective Conference held this past December and the potential outcomes of the General Election scheduled for 2024. He also touches on Eskom, race-based legislation in SA and his outlook for the country in general.
Mr Johnson is a highly regarded South-Africa based British journalist, political scientist, and historian. He is a Rhodes scholar and author of How Long will South Africa Survive published in 1977 and its sequel with the same title in 2015.
We’ve previously referenced Johnson’s insights into SA’s prospects which have proven to be on point, and thought that you might find his current thinking to be relevant, particularly with reference to his candid assessments of the ANC and their performance (or rather lack thereof).
It is interesting to observe that despite Johnson’s outlining of a dysfunctional, leading political party as manifested in poor governance at all levels – national, provincial and municipal – the JSE reached an all-time high this past Friday (We see this as symptomatic of the January global “risk-on” environment rather than attributing the rise of the index to local factors).
Like many of our clients, Johnson appears comfortable to remain based in SA, but we are confident he would concur with Dynasty’s investment philosophy to financially emigrate as much of clients’ wealth as appropriate, in defense of a stagnant political backdrop.
